01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Pizzeria & Trattoria Gigi (ピッツェリア&トラットリア ジッジ), the primary draw is pairing pizzas featuring fragrant, satisfyingly textured crusts with a casual lineup of small plates and drinks. The signature pizzas are crafted from dough made with domestic wheat flour, offering familiar options like Margherita and Marinara alongside creative choices such as a cream-based pie topped with shirasu (whitebait) and fresh nori seaweed, or a gorgonzola-accented four-cheese Quattro Formaggi. Diners wishing to sample two styles on a single crust can opt for a half-and-half combination of Margherita and Quattro Formaggi.
While awaiting the main pizza, cold starters such as an assorted antipasto plate, potato salad mixed with smoked pickled radish (iburigakko), and freshly shaved jamón serrano make natural accompaniments for a first glass. Warm dishes arrive piping hot, including shrimp and mushroom ajillo served with baguette slices, lasagna layered with house-made meat sauce, and white wine-steamed mussels whose remaining broth can be converted into a finishing risotto. Meat courses cooked slowly over charcoal, such as beef chuck flap (zabuton) and pork shoulder loin, offer a substantial focal point for meals built around wine.
The drink selection spans beers such as Moretti and Heineken, daily wines by the glass, house-made sangria, and cocktails mixed from various whiskies and spirits with chosen mixers. With both counter and table seating and operating hours extending to 1:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, the trattoria serves reliably for a full dinner or an unhurried late drink.
